Real Size to Model Size Converter

Enter a real-world measurement and the scale you are modelling in. The converter returns the size the object should be on your model, in millimetres, centimetres, metres, inches and feet.

Selected: OO Scale (1:76)

Enter a real-world measurement and your chosen scale. The app converts everything to millimetres first, then divides by the scale number to find the model size.

Your result will appear here.

How to use this converter

  1. 1. Measure the real object in millimetres, centimetres, metres, inches or feet.
  2. 2. Choose the scale denominator — the number after the 1: (76 for OO, 87 for HO, 148 for UK N).
  3. 3. Press Calculate to see the model size in both metric and imperial units.

Formula and worked examples

Real size ÷ scale denominator = model size

Real sizeScaleModel size
1,800 mm (approximately 5 ft 11 in) person1:76 (OO)1,800 ÷ 76 = 23.68 mm
4,500 mm car1:87 (HO)4,500 ÷ 87 = 51.72 mm
9,000 mm main battle tank1:359,000 ÷ 35 = 257.14 mm

The calculation is the same for every scale, so a 1,800 mm person is 23.68 mm at 1:76, 20.69 mm at 1:87 and 12.16 mm at 1:148. Always measure in the same units you intend to model in, and remember that figure heights can be quoted to the top of the head or to eye level.
